Hello, my name is Mariel Tavakoli and I am the American English teaching assistant at Gymnázium,
Střední pedagogická škola, Obchodní akademie a Jazyková škola s právem státní jazykové zkoušky Znojmo this school year. I am here as part of the United States J.W. Fulbright Program for international exchange between the United States and countries around the world. I am originally from Glen Ridge, New Jersey, and just graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Public Policy from the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia.
When I received the Fulbright scholarship to teach English in the Czech Republic in March 2013, I was both really excited and really nervous about traveling to live in a foreign country for 10.5 months. I could not be happier to have been placed in Znojmo as a teacher at this school. First, Znojmo is a beautiful city with many great places to go and sights to see. Second, my experience so far at GPOA has been great, with friendly and welcoming staff and students. I first arrived in August and have been assisting in English lessons for the past two months. I am extremely grateful to all for their kindness and help thus far. I look forward to eight more great months of teaching at GPOA and living in Znojmo!
